Highlands & Islands Ecosystem for rural mental health and active healthy ageing

The Scottish Rural Health Partnership (SRHP) and Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) have jointly accepted an invitation from the European Connected Health Alliance (ECHAlliance) to establish a new Ecosystem in the Highlands & Islands.

SRHP are really excited by this fantastic opportunity to create a new permanent mutually beneficial partnership for the Highlands & Islands which will focus on rural mental health and active healthy ageing with the dual aim of improving the delivery of rural health and social care services, and providing economic benefits.

Small businesses and entrepreneurs across rural Scotland will be able to access free practical advice on growing their businesses online, thanks to a new Amazon Academy programme for rural SMEs.

Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Scottish Development International are working in partnership with Amazon to bring the Academy north.

Thunder in the Glens

The weekend sees over 60 trade stands supporting local charities and groups, H-D demo bike rides, Jeep demo drives, a custom bike show, Scottish Knights battle scenes and off road motorbike riding. It is now the largest Harley Davidson rally in the UK.

Butchery Skills Training

This Added Value Course which is kindly supported by The Princes’ Countryside Fund, aims to help you add value to your croft business by learning the basics of butchery using lamb and venison. Tutor Duncan Mackenzie will guide you through knife skills, de-boning and presentation of meat cuts. The course is ideal for absolute beginners and improvers. Blade Shearing for Beginners

This course is aimed at beginners who are looking to shear their own sheep with hand shears. The course will cover:
- Learning what is meant by the “rise” of wool and the best time to clip sheep: hogs, tups and in-milk ewes
- Seeing how a catching pen is set up and learning about the importance of having a good handling area with suitable surfaces for shearing on and wrapping fleece
