Planning for the Future - Roadshow - Spring 2025

Over the next six weeks, a series of events will take place around the country aimed at combining the serious business of advice and support to help farmers prepare for the future, with a chance to socialise over a bite to eat.

The events are being run by RSABI working in partnership with the Royal Countryside Fund and will feature legal, business planning, farm accounts, mediation and succession experts who will lead some lively discussions to help farming families plan for the future.

A new programme is being launched to attract more people into the planning profession and build their skills.

The National Planning Skills Commitment Plan will provide training and skills development through monthly themed webinars, hands-on learning and recruitment support. It is supported by more than 100 leaders across almost 60 organisations in the built and natural environment professions. The plan will cover different themes at different times, with the first one on housing.

Work to plant 570,000 trees has begun as part of a Scottish university’s nature-based solution to tackle climate change.

The extensive tree planting is taking place across the University of Edinburgh’s land in Stirlingshire and the Pentland Hills Regional Park.

Walk & Talk Logie Newton Farm, Huntly

Farmstrong aim to encourage farmers and crofters to take time away, to connect, learn, share food and talk about the value of wellbeing as part of the business.

The events are free - they just need you to confirm your place via the Eventbrite Links.

A two-part survey, conducted by The James Hutton Institute on behalf of NatureScot, Natural England and the Welsh Government, has been issued as part of the Strategic Bracken Framework project to gather information about different methods currently being employed to deal with bracken, so that the information can be synthesised and shared more widely.

Whether you are nature champions, pioneering businesses, or passionate community groups, this is your moment to be celebrated!

With headline sponsor NatureScot, RSPB are recognising the people, projects and partnerships protecting Scotland’s nature.

Scotland’s leading nature conservation charity has announced its largest ever land acquisition after securing the 7,618-hectare Inverbroom Estate in the Scottish Highlands.

Nature Finance – Public or Private?

This online event, organised by SEDA Land, part of the Scottish Ecological Design Association, will explore where the money to finance nature recovery should come from, and how rural and island communities can thrive as Scotland’s natural environment is improved.

Land for Rural Housing: Supporting the Delivery of New Rural Homes

The Scottish Land Commission (SLC) has published a new report on Land for Rural Housing and the opportunity for public sector leadership.

This session will explore the need to increase rural housing and the role of a supply of land in creating new homes.  Major opportunities for economic growth in rural Scotland require new homes to support that growth.  At the same time remote communities are suffering from depopulation and an ageing demographic.
