Join David Cruickshank and Louise Booth at Logie Newton Farm, Huntly on Wednesday 26th March, 9.30 am for refreshments with finish approximately 2pm after lunch.
Nestled in rural Aberdeenshire, Logie Newton Farm has been managed by the Cruickshank family since 1834, balancing tradition and innovation for sustainability. David Cruickshank, the fifth-generation manager, transitioned the farm to arable farming with malting barley as the main crop and upgraded technology, including wind turbines and a microgrid unit.
David’s daughter Louise diversified the farm by establishing Logie Newton Lodges, a luxury retreat with modern amenities that harmonize with the landscape. The lodges feature energy-efficient heat pumps, EV charging facilities, and support local businesses. They offer guests scenic views, walking trails, pet-friendly accommodations, and bolster the local economy.
Hosting this Farmstrong walk and talk event allows them to share their diversification experiences, which include overcoming challenges like planning permissions and financial investments. The benefits are a resilient farm business, an opportunity to showcase the landscape, and providing a unique experience for guests.
David and Louise look forward to welcoming you to Logie Newton Farm, sharing their story, and discussing the opportunities and challenges of diversification in today’s farming landscape.
