Artefacts of the month - Spelt wheat grains and a wooden colander with butter remains

Help us kick start our 20th anniversary year by joining us to celebrate Easter with pancakes cooked over an open fire; freshly baked bread and butter - kneaded and churned by you!

All day time events include museum exhibits, talks around a log-fire in the authentic Crannog roundhouse, demonstrations and hands-on experience of ancient crafts.

Each of our 2017 events is inspired by at least one ‘artefact of the month’ discovered in our underwater excavations of a 2,500 year old loch-dwelling in Loch Tay. In April, we celebrate the finds of an ancient wooden butter dish that still contained butter fat residue and spelt wheat grains that make delicious bread and pancakes. Prior to our discoveries, it was thought that the Romans introduced spelt wheat to Scotland but since they arrived some 500 years later, the native farmers and crannog-dwellers get to take the credit!

Join us on Easter Sunday and take a step back in time with our expert guides who will demonstrate ancient cooking methods to produce delicious pancakes and more. Tastings will take place throughout the day.
