Communities have many options to secure and develop land, but the full range of financing models is often not widely known, and there is more scope to develop innovative finance models to support community ownership, a new report says.

New entrants to the farming industry get help from Scottish Government scheme.
More public sector land has been released to people who want to become farmers.
Around 6,400 hectares of land has been made available from public bodies such as Forestry and Land Scotland, Crown Estate Scotland, Scottish Water, Highland and Islands Enterprise, East Lothian and Highland Councils.

Scottish Land and Estates are now seeking nominations for the 2019 round of the Helping it Happen Awards.
Now into their third year, the awards are looking to build on past success and acknowledge the enormous contribution that rural businesses make to the Scottish economy.

An extensive community consultation on a proposed World Heritage Site for The Flow Country has been announced.
The Flow Country in Caithness and Sutherland is the largest expanse of blanket bog in Europe, covering around 200,000 hectares. A recent international study has described the areas as being "the best peatland of its type in the world".

Applications are open to run an event as part of Community Land Week, 10-18 August 2019.
Community Land Week is coordinated by Community Land Scotland and the Scottish Government. It's a celebration of all things community ownership and first ran in 2018.
Any geographic community that owns land or another asset, from an estate to a woodland to a community centre, can apply to run an event as part of the week.
A new alliance has launched which aims to ensure that Scotland cares for, improves and benefits from its landscapes.
People from over 60 national organisations gathered at Our Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh for the launch of Scotland's Landscape Alliance on 25 April 2019.

The Scottish Land Commission are carrying out a survey to look at how community engagement in decisions relating to land is currently undertaken in Scotland.
They want to hear from anyone with control over the way land is used or managed, in both urban and rural Scotland.
