2025 DiversiTree Webinar

DiversiTree Webinar: Diversifying the tree species composition of our woodlands to increase resilience.
Date:
Wednesday 29 January 2025 - 12:00 to 13:00
Venue:

Online

Organiser:
Royal Forestry Society

This webinar will present the results from the DiversiTree project which aimed to increase resilience of current and future woodlands by working across a range of scales, from microbes to minds, to understand the methods to, and the impacts of, diversifying tree species composition. The project focussed on Sitka spruce and Scots pine forests and assessed:

How woodland managers understand woodland diversity and what are their ambitions in relation to resilient future woods?
Does increased tree species diversity alter the microbial diversity on the tree leaves and if so can this help the tree resist pathogen infections?
What biodiversity is supported by Sitka spruce or Scots pine trees and can this biodiversity be hosted by trees which might be used to diversify these forests?
How do different management techniques (CCF, enrichment planting and natural regeneration) help with diversification?

The DiversiTree project presented a webinar to the RFS two years ago at the start of the project and are delighted to return to share their findings with you. The webinar will be presented by Dr Ruth Mitchell (The James Hutton Institute), Dr Seumas Bates (Bangor University), Prof Rob Jackson and Dr Lisa Lamberte (University of Birmingham) Dr Chris Nichols (The Woodland Trust).
