The Social Capital World Forum (SCWF) was launched in Scotland in 2009, to bring together organisations (civil society, NGOs, social enterprises, academic, statutory sector, etc.) working at a regional and national level with social capital as a key resource for enhancing community well-being and resilience to:

  • Share knowledge and experiences of ‘social capital in practice’
  • Build a collaborative network for effective communication between SCWF participants
  • Expand opportunities to promote the value of social capital regionally, nationally and internationally

This year the Social Capital World Forum (SCWF) will run again as a Learning Village based on the success of the event that took place in Scotland, 2013. A Learning Village (LV) is a real life setting that creates a safe space to enable citizens to share their experiences, collaborate with others, be inspired and ultimately inspire others in their community.

This event in Glasgow is the first of a series of 3 LVs in collaboration with the cities of Gothenburg in Sweden and Dornbirn in Austria, which will enable both local and international collaboration.

Ever-tighter budgets present both a challenge and an opportunity, allowing innovation to emerge within communities. The LV approach explores new methodologies that foster social capital, trust and collaboration and lead to competent communities skilled in the local decision making processes and with capacity to shape their local agenda.

The 3 LVs will demonstrate how people can come together and bridge the gap between themselves and their community, help design processes and policies and create a replicable model for local delivery of community led initiatives.

Each Learning Village will enable up to 10 local community orientated initiatives to be taken forward. To achieve this we will delve deep into approaches that unlock local strengths, resources and assets and create extended networks of shared understanding.
