Site Safety and Management – Forest to Bog Restoration Sites
This course sets a foundation for safe and effective management of operational forestry sites and learning activities will be delivered through classroom and field sessions.
By the end of this course you will:
- Understand the Forest Industry Safety Accord roles & responsibilities in operational forestry management.
- Identify and describe the hazards and risks of mechanised forestry in a peatland context.
- Reduce risks and stay safe around forestry and restoration operations.
- Explain and understand current safety procedures.
- Understand key components of operational site planning including risk assessment and emergency procedures.
- Understand contract pre-commencement requirements such as operations maps, operator certification and competence, machinery, site specific risk assessment and insurance.
- Be familiar with and know where to find, site management reference material including FISA, operational manuals and information on certification bodies.
- Know how to apply key components of operational site monitoring including site visits, using a RAG system, site diaries, escalation processes and tools & technology.
- Be able to apply best practice in practical contract management to ensure productivity, quality management and achievement of desired outputs.
The field sessions will include visits to live harvesting sites and so hard hat, hi-vis and work boots will be required.
