For this volunteering day, you will be helping the team take on the removal of Himalayan Balsam.

While an attractive looking flower, it grows in dense stands shading and crowding out many native species, and with a shallow root system, adds no benefit to the stability of the riverbank. Himalayan Balsam is also very attractive to insects often to the detriment of native plants further impacting our biodiversity. Its explosive seed capsules means that it can spread quickly, and so by joining us to hand pull Himalayan Balsam during the summer months, you can help to prevent the spread of this invasive species.

Due to the shallow root system of these plants, they are incredibly easy to hand-pull out of the soil, making for a fun and rewarding activity.

Please bring - Sun protection, hat, wear long trousers and long sleeves in case of nettles and brambles and gardening gloves if you have them!

We provide water, tea, coffee & Tunnocks! please bring your own picnic lunch along with you.
