This event will look to explore views and thoughts on how future models of care for older people might look and how your community will be involved in those models of support.

East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership have already undertaken considerable research on hospital beds and care home places for older people. This has revealed that we currently have enough of both in the short-to-medium term, but only if we have services within the community that mean people can live safely at home.

One of the main issues that they would like to look at with you is how we take account of the needs of all the communities in East Lothian to make sure that people, wherever they live in the county, have equality of access to advice, resources and support.

This is an issue not just for people currently using provision and their carers, but for the wider community, and particularly people in their 40s, 50s and 60s who are not using services now but may have to in the future.

The format for the event will be:

  • Introduction and overview

  • A look at some models of care

  • A workshop session that enables you to comment on what you’ve heard and explore what would work for your community.
