With the impending storm season approaching, Scottish Forestry have highlighted its guidance about managing storm damaged trees to owners of small woodlands.

The resource provides advice and information on what needs to be considered when assessing, harvesting and replacing woodland that has been damaged by storms. It's aimed at owners of small woodlands and those who may have limited experience with dealing with windblown trees. 

The guidance covers aspects of managing storm damaged trees, including:

  • Safety
  • Reporting
  • Regulations, including felling permissions and licenses
  • Identify markets
  • Woodland certification and quality assured timber
  • Timber transport
  • Restocking
  • Pests and diseases
