As the energy agency for Argyll and Bute, ALIenergy works across multiple project areas to promote the sustainable use of energy.

In education, the team works with the support of funding from ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) to deliver activities to young people and communities in Mid Argyll and Kintyre (or MAK for short) to increase awareness about opportunities relating to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subject areas.

As part of this work, ALIenergy are delighted to be holding an exciting careers event in February 2024, bringing together young people and STEM-related employers. MAK STEM Fest is a free careers event with companies and organisations whose operations need employees with STEM skills, qualifications and training.

Join them on Wednesday, 21st February 2024 from 15:00 to 18:00 for members of the local community (students, young adults recently left education, as well as adults looking for a career change) to engage with STEM employers. The day is designed around a mini-conference approach, giving young delegates the chance to meet employers and find out at first-hand about different learning and career paths that could lead them to jobs in STEM. Through this type of engagement STEM related companies can reach out to young people at school, as part of the process of addressing future skills requirements in these important areas.

MAK STEM Fest is being held at Machrihanish Airbase Community Company Business Park Officers Mess, Campbeltown, Argyll, PA28 6NU.

Attending organisations include ScottishPower Renewables, MOWI, Forestry and Land Scotland, Tilhill Forestry, Discover Space UK and The Royal Navy. ALIenergy’s planning of the event has been carried out in consultation with Skills Development ScotlandDeveloping the Young Workforce, our funders at SPR and Argyll and Bute Council. It has benefitted enormously from the expertise, experience and support available from these key organisations. ALIenergy will be taking responsibility for liaison with the three schools and the venue, ensuring all logistical requirements (including travel for the students and health and safety considerations) are in place. We will be providing lunch on the day and can sign post accommodation if required both on site and 6 miles away in Campbeltown.
