Small Producers Info Hub launched
Alan Robertson

Last week saw the launch of the Small Producers Info Hub website at the Royal Highland Show.

Funded by the Scottish Government and developed in partnership with Nourish Scotland, the Hub is designed to answer questions about dos and don’ts in relation to food production in Scotland and has been developed.

There are many regulations that small producers – including crofters, smallholders and market gardeners – need to be aware of. The website spells them out in an accessible way. From planning permission and cattle tagging to tax regs and labelling.

The Hub has been co-designed with small producers in Scotland. It continues to be in development and will be updated with guidance for additional sectors in the coming months.

A range of food sectors are covered, including livestock, beekeeping, market gardening, shellfish and seed production.

The business side of running a small farm or croft is often considered one of the toughest and most crucial aspects to get right so the Hub also covers essential business-related themes ranging from accounting to employment law and regulations, data protection laws to business insurance and more.

Nourish Scotland are interested in what questions small producers in Scotland struggle to find answers to. They are keen to know of any unanswered queries producers might have about regulations, compliance and rights of a small producer so they can further develop the Hub to address these areas.
