Garbh Allt Community Initiative
Development Officer
30 Hours per week, fixed term contract (min. 1.5 years). Salary £25,000
Garbh Allt Community Initiative was formed to progress the purchase of Sutherland Estate land in the crofting townships of Portgower, Gartymore, West Helmsdale and Marrel. In addition, it is to manage and develop the land on behalf of the communities who live there. The Initiative has completed the purchase of the land and secured funding from the Scottish Land Fund for the employment of a part-time Development Officer.
The successful candidate will co-ordinate and support the efforts of The Garbh Allt Community Initiative by developing the business plan contents, alongside nurturing of the community long term vision. The ideal applicant will be qualified to degree level with experience in community development or community land trusts, we also welcome applications from those without a degree who have relevant experience.

Aquaculture Interactions Field Officer

The Scottish Government are currently seeking applications for an Aquaculture interactions field officer within Marine Scotland Science, Interactions Group, based in Pitlochry. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. The Interactions Group investigates the interactions between migratory freshwater fish and human influences. This post is to perform fieldwork, and collect data that contributes to our understanding of smolt (salmon, sea trout) migration, salmon genetics and factors affecting numbers of adult fish returning to rivers. As part of this work the post holder will be required to provide cover for the Freshwater Laboratory’s field station at Shieldaig, in Wester Ross, as required.

Assistant Fisheries Scientist

The Scottish Government are currently seeking applications for an Assistant Fisheries Scientist within Marine Scotland Science, Salmon Assessment Group, based in Montrose. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. The Salmon Assessment Group is responsible for collecting data on the abundance and biological characteristics of adult salmon stocks that are of sufficient quality to support the provision of science-based advice on salmon management and conservation. This post supports the operation of three in-river automated fish counters, focusing on their day-to-day maintenance, and to obtain and validate the counter data. The post holder will also participate in fieldwork to obtain and sample salmon / sea trout and will age fish from collected scale samples.

Zooplankton Analyst
37 hours per week, permanent contract. Salary £24580 - £27515
The Scottish Government are currently seeking applications for a zooplankton analyst within the Ecology and Conservation Group of Marine Scotland Science based in Aberdeen. This is a Fair and Open Fixed Term (24 months) and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria will be invited to the assessments.
The main role of this post is to undertake routine taxonomic analysis of zooplankton samples in support of monitoring and research programmes. The post will include participation in research surveys, data entry and ensuring quality control of databases. The post holder will also assist in laboratory management.
