Community Connector - Highlands and Islands Connections Project - Support in Mind
- Location: Home based. Travel across the Western Isles (The Uists and Benbecula)
- Salary: £20,520 per annum
- Hours of work: 35 hours per week (Full time)
- Contract: 9 months fixed term contract to February 2020
This post is funded through the Aspiring Communities Fund (ACF) with support from European Social Fund and 100% of staff time will be spent on the ACF Highlands and Islands Connections Project. This post is Fixed Term to the end of February 2020.
Support in Mind Scotland (SiMS) has been provided funding to develop two community pilot projects that will engage with people in rural areas to test out place-based approaches to supporting mental health.
This work will be based the results of our previous Well Connected Communities project and on a survey into rural mental health by SiMS and Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) that highlighted the need for people to feel more connected to their communities and to each other – as well as for the need for more local resources to support people with mental health problems.
They are now recruiting a Community Connector for the Western Isles. The Community Connector will identify, train and support passionate mental health aware volunteers, reach out to individuals needing support and help instil a positive community attitude towards mental health across the region.

Support Officer - Highlands & Islands Connections Project - Support in Mind

Support in Mind are seeking a Support Officer to take on a key role in their rural Aspiring Communities Fund project which is called Highlands & Islands Connections. The Support Officer will have responsibility for the creation of support materials and coordination of evidence for the final report. You will report to the Highlands & Islands Community Connections Manager and provide support for volunteering and income generation across both rural teams.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of working with communities, rural matters and health.
This post may be worked from a home office base or from one of their offices.

Administrative Assistant - Highlands and Islands Connections Project - Support in Mind
- Hours of work: 18 hours a week
- Salary: £16,818 pa pro rata. Post for 9 months only
Support in Mind are seeking an Administrative Assistant to take on a key role in their rural Aspiring Communities Fund project which is called Highlands & Islands Connections. The Administrative Officer will have responsibility for assisting staff with office tasks, coordinating travel and paying for materials as well as assisting at events and meetings. You will report to the Highlands & Islands Community Connections Manager and provide support to both rural teams and the National Mental Health Rural Forum.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in an office environment and ideally knowledge of working with communities, rural matters and/or health.
This post will be worked from Support in Mind Scotland National Office in Edinburgh.

Distress Brief Intervention (DBI) Coordinator (X2) - Support in Mind
- Location: Inverness (travel across the Highlands may be required)
- Salary: £12,312 (FTE £20,520)
- Hours of work: 21 hours per week
- Contract: Fixed term until March 2021 (Possible extension subject to funding)
Support in Mind Scotland is the lead partner in the Highlands for the Scottish Government’s Distress Brief Intervention project (DBI). The DBI is a Scotland-wide pilot project, testing a ground-breaking approach to addressing the emotional and psychological pain experienced by people in distress. Working in partnership with frontline services (including Police, Ambulance, Primary Care and Emergency Departments) and with third sector support organisations; the project provides rapid referral to focussed, short-term support, with the option of onward referral to longer-term support if required.
These posts offer an opportunity to join this major, high profile Scottish Government project in a key role. We are seeking to appoint two highly motivated people to join our team of DBI Coordinators in Inverness. Coordinators provide support, advice and personal support planning for people referred from front-line services, carrying out short-term work with people in distress to review the reasons for their distress, develop immediate coping strategies and link them into a range of appropriate community services and facilities.
The posts are based in Inverness and are funded until March 2021. The post holders will be required to join the PVG Scheme.

Field Officer - Scottish Government
The Scottish Government are currently seeking applications for a Field Officer within the Marine Scotland Science based in Shieldiag. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range.
The post is within the Interactions Group within the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries programme which provides research and advice in support of Scottish government policies in relation to freshwater and migratory fish. The post is based at a field station in Shieldaig, Wester Ross. Specifically, the post holder will assist on projects supporting the management of freshwater fish in Scotland. These projects will investigate the interactions between migratory fish (salmon and sea trout) and human activity.

Outside the Box are recruiting two part-time Community Workers for the new Community Connections projects in two areas:
Outside the Box was established in 2004. They provide community development support, shared learning and capacity building for people who want to make changes in their communities.
The Community Connections project has developed from work they are doing with people in the above areas to develop more opportunities for older people, including activities that can benefit the whole community.
