In Rural Jobs Round Up we highlight some current rural development posts and jobs in rural areas.

Project Development Manager - Wester Loch Ewe Trust

  • Salary: £24,375 pro rata
  • Salary info: 20 hours per week                                                         
  • Location: The post-holder will be expected to attend monthly board meetings, and be working in the Gairloch area as needed.

Wester Loch Ewe Trust has recently taken community ownership of the Inverasdale Primary School building and grounds which is located in a very remote rural area. WLET is engaged in providing facilities and services for local people and visitors to assist regeneration of our area.  The Project Development Manager post is funded by the Big Lottery for 2.5 years.

Real experience of steering a project through building renovations to successful completion, your aptitude, values, a knowledge of remote rural areas and a good understanding of the funding landscape are more important to us than formal qualifications. This post needs someone who can work hard alongside a proactive community to get the job done and some working from home. You will have these attributes:

  • Confident, self-motivated and proactive with good organisational skills
  • A good track record in fundraising for large capital projects
  • Experience of rural communities
  • Good with people
  • An excellent relationship builder with clients and partners from a range of backgrounds
  • Experienced in supporting trading ventures
  • Able to problem-solve and design and implement solutions
  • Knowledgeable about the voluntary, community and social enterprise sectors and the current key issues especially around social outcomes and community empowerment
  • Highly skilled in both verbal and written communication with good bid writing experience and comfortable with business plans.
  • An excellent team player and willing to share skills and knowledge
  • Proficient in the use of technology and willing to learn new ways of working as needed

Good Practice Manager - Scottish Land Commission

  • Salary: £36,328 – £43,923
  • Location: Longman House, Inverness

The purpose of this role is to lead the Commission’s programme of good practice to deliver practical implementation of the Land Rights and Responsibilities Statement, delivering a proactive programme of promotion, advice, codes and guidance that informs and influences practice on the ground. This post will report to the Head of Land Rights and Responsibilities/Tenant Farming.

Senior Policy Officer - Scottish Land Commission

  • Salary: £36,328 – £43,923
  • Location: Longman House, Inverness

The purpose of this role is to support the Head of Policy and Research in delivering the Land Commission’s programme of work, with a particular focus on our Land for Housing and Development priority. The successful candidate will be expected to lead project delivery on a number of priority work-streams:

  •  vacant and derelict land – we have established a cross sector task force to significantly reduce the amount of vacant and derelict land in Scotland;
  •  land value capture – we are investigating options for capturing more of the publicly created uplifts in land values to help fund infrastructure delivery; and
  •  public interest led development – we are looking at ways of encouraging a more proactive approach to delivering major development.

The successful candidate will also be required to make a proactive contribution to the strategic direction of the areas of work in which they are involved and build relationships with key stakeholders in relevant sectors.
This post reports to the Head of Policy and Research.

STEM Engagement Manager - Science Skills Academy - Highlands and Islands Enterprise

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) have an exciting opportunity for a STEM Engagement Manager, employed by HIE, to work closely with the Director to deliver the vision of the Science Skills Academy. You will oversee and support the delivery of Newton modules to young people in Newton rooms by STEM Engagement Officers.  Newton modules are programmes of inspirational and hands-on STEM activities.

To be credible in this role you will bring significant, demonstrable experience of working in an educational or training setting, and have a proven track record in presenting and delivering STEM subjects and activities to external audiences. You will also be a problem solver and strategic thinker, with experience in line management and multi-partner stakeholder engagement. A sound knowledge and understanding of Primary and Secondary Education sectors is essential An awareness of post-school STEM education and career opportunities is desirable.
