Dumfries & Galloway LEADER Project Officer (Temporary)

Dumfries & Galloway LEADER is seeking a confident, out-going individual to support the local business sector in the development of projects which will ensure we maximise the benefit of this new tranche of funding for Dumfries & Galloway.

Successful candidates will bring knowledge of the business and enterprise sector and a keen understanding of the economic context in which rural businesses currently operate.

Experience of working closely with Business Support agencies e.g. Business Gateway would be an advantage. Candidates must be educated to SVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

Policy Officer (Agriculture & Forestry) - Scottish Land & Estates

Scottish Land & Estates is seeking to appoint a Policy Officer to work on agriculture, forestry and crofting issues.

Scottish Land & Estates is a membership organisation that represents the interests of rural landowners and land-based businesses across Scotland. The Policy Officer (Agriculture & Forestry) will be required to identify and develop key policy issues for the rural sector, with a focus on agriculture, forestry and crofting issues, produce policy briefings and technical guidance, provide advice to the membership and generally take the lead on policy areas within their remit. The role will also involve considerable engagement with a wide range of stakeholders as well as representational activity.

Salary will be in the region of £27,000 to £30,000 per annum depending on skills and experience, and will be offered alongside a generous holiday entitlement and a contributory pension. This post will be based at Scottish Land & Estates headquarters at Musselburgh.

LEADER Project Officer - Midlothian Council

Midlothian Council are seeking a Project Officer for their Economic Development Section. You will assist with the coordination, development and delivery of the Tyne Esk LEADER Programme 2014 - 2020 throughout the rural areas of East Lothian and Midlothian.

You will have experience of working in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders active in rural economic development. A first class communicator with strong interpersonal skills, you will be used to liaising and working with rural based businesses, public sector agencies and Third Sector organisations. It is an essential requirement for the jobholder to have a degree in a relevant discipline such as Business Economic Development or Planning and post-qualification experience which must include experience of community development and project development. You will be responsible for providing advice, guidance and support to community organisations involved in asset-based community development, predominantly covering Lochaber and Skye, as well as some projects in Wester Ross and other areas as required. You will also contribute to the policy and sectoral development work of the team, which may involve new areas of activity, in order to support the delivery of HIE's Operating Plan. In doing so you will liaise with colleagues in other parts of HIE, particularly in area offices and partner organisations as appropriate.

A key part of this role will be to bring fresh thinking to HIE's work in the fields of community asset development, to help create a customer-focused business that is responsive and proactive, and to work with the senior leadership team to set an organisational climate in which staff resources are aligned and empowered to pursue HIE's remit, encouraging innovation and creativity.

Lantra - Project Manager

Lantra is the Sector Skills Council for the UK’s land-based, aquaculture and environmental conservation industries. Following a review of business requirements in Scotland, we are now seeking an experienced project manager to join our team in Perth. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with relevant sector knowledge and experience, an understanding of Scotland’s qualifications, training and skills ‘landscape’, and direct line management experience.

Your primary responsibility will be to lead on the development and delivery of a work plan supported by the Scottish Government’s Directorate for Agriculture, Food and Rural Communities. Specific activities will support the promotion of sector careers, influence skills and training policies and provision, and actively engage businesses and trade associations to inform our work and to promote the benefits of investing in skills.

You will directly manage a project co-ordinator and project administrator, with additional support from other Scotland and UK colleagues. You will liaise directly with Scottish Government Stakeholder Group members and other strategic partners, and will have budget management and reporting responsibilities. You will also help to raise awareness and understanding of Lantra’s wider work, including partnerships, projects and commercial products and services.

To be considered for this role you must have:

  • A proven ‘track record’ in successful project management, delivering agreed outputs to a high standard, on time and within budget
  • A sound, working knowledge of Scotland’s agricultural and other land-based industries
  • Good awareness and understanding of Scotland’s skills, training and qualifications ‘landscape’;
  • Direct line management experience
  • You will also be self-motivated and will need to evidence strong communication (including reporting and presentation), budget management, consultation and negotiation skills. Project development, bid-writing and contract management experience is desirable but not essential.
