Resilience funding for Community Councils

The National Centre for Resilience (NCR) have announced that their ‘Community Councils Fund’ is open with applications closing on 31 January 2024.

The funding is for Community Councils to develop local resilience plans that address potential natural hazards such as heavy snow, landslides, high winds, and other disruptive events and subsequently enhance their local community preparedness and response to natural hazards.

Launched in 2016, the NCR is a cross sector partnership spanning Scottish universities, government and practice. They are committed to improving countrywide resilience to natural hazards across Scotland.

Their Steering Group ensures close working ties with academic institutions, government and resilience professionals from regional and local authorities, the third sector and wider resilience communities.

The NCR is an academic research hub, using evidence to inform policy and practice. They bridge the gap between academia, policy and practice by promoting cross sector partnerships, encouraging each to learn from the other to improve resilience when planning for, responding to and recovering from natural hazard events.

The Community Council Fund is a new for Grant Call for FY2024/2025. Projects will be awarded competitively with individual project funding subject to a maximum amount of £500.

Successful projects must:

• Have identified potential hazards and threats specific to their community.
• Establish adaptation, mitigation, and recovery strategies tailored to your local needs.
• Reduce the likely impacts of natural hazards and ensure the continued operation of key infrastructure systems.
• Focus on enabling rapid restoration of critical services following significant disruptive events
• Address the risks associated with natural hazards and enhancing community resilience within your specific areas.
• Provide a summary report of the plan’s key findings, strategies, and objectives which may be shared as best practice examples.

Important Dates

• Application Opens: 13th October 2023
• Application Submission Deadline: 31st January 2024
• Grant Award Notifications: 1st April 2024
• Project Completion Date: 28th February 2025
