Local residents from Lesmahagow, Brocketsbrae & Hawksland will launch their new 5-year community action plan at The Fountain, Lesmahagow on October 26th from 10am-2pm.

The plan explains what the community’s priorities are for the next five years and highlights particular projects the community would like to work on together to improve their place. The plan can also be used as evidence by any community group seeking funding or by organisations who deliver services in that community.

The action plans are the culmination of over 6 months of work with a dedicated Steering Group made up of local people. Supported by LEADER funded Community Action Lanarkshire, the community created a tailored survey, held open drop-in sessions and detailed focus groups, all leading to the production of the Action Plan.

The plan will be launched at The Fountain in Lesmahagow on 26th October and hope to see as many people as possible from these communities with copies of the plans available on the day.

Other organisations will be attending this free event and there will be craft activities and refreshments available to all who stop by.

Anyone who can’t make it along, can view the plan at www.communityactionlan.org

Ruth McElhinney, CAL Development Officer says, “Working with the local community to help capture and set out their aspirations has been a really uplifting experience. We are looking forward to continued engagement with the communities to help develop some of the projects they identified.”

Lorna James, Head Teacher from Milton Primary School and Steering Group member said,

“This action plan clearly lays out what local people would like to see happen within the community over the next five years. It was really useful and enjoyable being part of the Steering Group and a privilege to represent the children in the villages.”
