Moray Climate Action Network, known as Moray CAN, have this week announced a range of activity including details of funding opportunities.

Moray CAN is a climate action network of groups, organisations, and individuals working together to tackle climate change in Moray.

Their aim is to inspire, engage and support Moray communities to take tangible steps towards a more sustainable future.

Moray CAN is led by its network of members and hosted by tsiMORAY and can help local organisations secure funding for a wide range of sustainability projects.

Moray CAN Seed Grant Funding Launch

Moray CAN are excited to announce the launch of their Seed Grant funding on Monday (8 July 2024), which is now an online application. They are offering grants of up to £2,000 to support climate action projects in Moray.

They have £27,500 available, with £20,000 specifically allocated for nature restoration in partnership with the Moray Council as part of the Scottish Government's Nature Restoration Fund. This funding aims to protect and restore Scotland's biodiversity on land and sea. See here for more details.

Moray Local Action Fund

The Moray Local Action Fund 2024-25 offers funding for community projects benefiting the people of Moray, supported by a Scottish Government grant. Community-led groups can apply for the Main Grants Scheme (over £5,000, up to £30,000) or the Small Grants Scheme (under £5,000). Applications are open now and close on August 12, 2024. See here for more details.

Funding support

There will be a drop-in session for information on various funds, including the Moray CAN Seed Grants, Moray Local Action Fund, Just Transition PB, and the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund. Join Moray CAN on July 23rd from 14:30 to 16:30 at the Inkwell in Elgin. www.moraycan.org.uk

Funding Panel Volunteers Needed

Moray CAN still have a couple of spots open on their funding panel. If you are interested in contributing your expertise and helping them allocate these important funds, please let them know.

Climate Change Conference and Climate Change Week

Over the past few weeks, Moray CAN have been focusing on organising their upcoming Climate Change Conference, scheduled for September 27th at the Mansfield Hotel in Elgin. This conference will cap off a week of activities during Climate Change Week.

Moray CAN are currently sourcing events and activities to promote through the week so please get in touch if you would like to be involved.

The conference will feature morning speakers followed by off-site workshops in the afternoon, including a nature walk focused on wildflowers in an area that has had nature restoration work done. More details to follow as speakers and workshops are confirmed. They will also have space at the venue for stalls if you would like to come and showcase your project/organisation!

Additionally, the Moray Chamber of Commerce is offering business support through their Green Path initiative. This program is available to social enterprises and businesses in Moray with fewer than 100 employees, helping them become more environmentally friendly. Details at: https://www.moraychamber.co.uk/free-net-zero-green-path-plan
