Scottish Forestry are funding a limited number of free Farm Woodland Assessments within the Central Scotland Green Network, which covers an area stretching from Ayrshire and Inverclyde in the west to Fife and the Lothians in the east.

The assessments will allow farmers the opportunity to assess their landholding for potential planting with no future obligations.

Consultants with expertise in farm woodland creation will provide farmers with:

  • tailored advice on areas for planting based on landowner objectives
  • available grants through the Forestry Grant Scheme
  • predicted expenditure and cash flow
  • advice on tree management

With 85% of farmland in Scotland classified as Less Favoured Area (LFA) there are significant opportunities for landowners to maximise business productivity by adding value to underproductive land via woodland creation.

New woodlands have the potential to create an additional sustainable long term income stream for businesses and an important source of low carbon, low cost woodfuel, at the same time as realising livestock and crop productivity and environmental benefits (including helping to manage a businesses carbon footprint).

The deadline for applications is December 20 2024
