Angus Community Resilience Roadshow to hit county trail later this month

Angus Council’s Community Resilience Roadshow will be hitting the county trail later this month to highlight the importance of being prepared – for both individuals and communities.

The roadshow is supported by Angus Rural Partnership, with funding from the Scottish Government’s Rural Community-Led Local Development Fund 2024-2025, part of the Scottish Rural Development Programme, as well as SSEN.

Angus Community Resilience Forum roadshow partners, who will join our resilience, roads and community officers, include the emergency services, SSEN, Scottish Neighbourhood Watch, The Red Cross and the Met Office.

There will also be a “Hello from Flo” each day – with the Scottish Flood Forum attending with Flo the Flood Bus.

Active members of local resilience groups will be on hand to talk about vital work and planning they do at the heart of the community. They will provide a defibrillator demonstration and offer an insight into the benefits of portable generators and other essential equipment. Trading Standards officers will attend to give information about current scams.

Funding has been provided for a limited number of household Grab Bags that will be available, free of charge at each show. A grab bag is an essential part of being prepared and these contain items such as a power bank for mobile devices, a pen, notepad and torch. Advice on adding personal contents will be available.

Asda have made a generous donation towards resilience boxes, and one will be raffled off at each event.

Communities convener, Mark McDonald, said:

“This information tour builds upon our very worthwhile flooding advice roadshows and is really all about raising awareness about what we can all do in advance of significant incidents or serious events.

“Emergency responders will provide information about how they react and respond to emergency incidents. Crucially, they can also give guidance to groups and individuals about how they can plan for such eventualities and help themselves and, potentially, others.

“The roadshows are also a great opportunity to network with resilience partners, organisations and volunteers. A little preparedness before the fact can make all the difference in how well we are equipped to deal with unexpected or emergency incidents. We hope these roadshows will provide some valuable insight and advice about how to be as resilient as we all can be when the need arises.”

The roadshow runs for four days from Monday 28 April and will be pulling in at the following:

  • Mon 28 April – Kirriemuir Fire Station, 65 Glengate, DD8 4JG - 2pm-7pm
  • Tue 29 April - Montrose Playhouse, The Mall, DD10 8NN – 2pm to 7pm
  • Wed 30 April - Arbroath Saltire Centre, 58 Montrose Rd, DD11 5JN – 3pm to 7.30pm
  • Thu 1 May - Brechin City FC, Glebe Park, DD9 6BJ – 2pm to 7pm

Notably, the roadshow is visiting Angus towns this time around (it has visited other towns previously), to emphasise that preparation and resilience is just as important for our more urban areas as it is for our rural communities.
