Farmstrong Scotland

Over the winter we will talk to Scottish and International sports professionals who started their career in farming or crofting, and continue to keep their foot firmly on the ground.

Farmstrong Scotland explore what it takes to stay focused on the pitch and on the track, and how they prioritise their wellbeing for the benefit of their sport as well as their own health.

Learn more about why agriculture will always be an important part of their journey to success, and how the skills and experiences they gained on the farm or croft continue to play a vital part in keeping them resilient during the highs and lows of the sporting world.

In this first episode Farmstrong Scotland speak to Sam Whitelock, New Zealand’s most-capped rugby union player, having played 153 tests since his debut in 2010.

He was born and raised on a dairy farm in Manawatu and attended Lincoln University in Canterbury, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. After hanging up his boots and retiring from professional sport in 2024, Sam is now back ‘on the grass’ working at his sheep and beef farm in the Hawkes Bay.

Joining live from the farm, Sam will share what he has learnt from professional sport about the importance of keeping mentally and physically fit and how these skills can be applied to managing ups and downs of farming.

He will also share a little of his role as an Ambassador for Farmstrong in New Zealand, sharing many daily habits that help farmers, and their families perform at their best and keep well.

Join Farmstrong Scotland Chairman John Scott as he blethers with Sam on Tuesday 29th October from 6pm to 7pm. Register below for the joining details.
