Lantra Scotland is now accepting nominations for its 2017 Land-based and Aquaculture Learner of the Year Awards.

Now in their fourteenth year, the awards celebrate the achievements of the country's most talented Modern Apprentices, trainees, school pupils, mentors and secondary schools.

Wildlife fans and nature ambassadors in East Lothian have created a video encouraging other young people to enjoy the outdoors in a safe, sustainable and respectful way.

North Berwick Wildlife Watch's 'Guide to Rockpooling' video was produced with photographer Barrie Williams, who won British Wildlife Photographer of the Year in 2015. Barrie has now turned his hand to videography and helping other nature-enthusiasts communicate the importance of engaging with nature in the appropriate way.

Are you aged between 18 and 25 and passionate about the future of agriculture?

Entries are now open to participate in the third Bayer Youth Ag-Summit to be held in October 2017 in Brussels. 

In partnership with two Belgian Young Farmers Associations, Groene Kring and Federation des Jeunes Agriculteurs, next year’s week-long conference will bring together around 100 young people to discuss contemporary issues in agriculture, the environment and international development.

Fertile Minds 2016

Fertile Minds is a one-day conference for aspiring, business-minded young people looking to develop their careers in agriculture. There will be keynote speakers, industry experts, panel discussions, Q&A sessions and afternoon workshops on a range of agricultural business topics, aimed at different entrant levels and career aspirations. There will also be plenty of opportunities to meet and network with your peers.

Three projects have been awarded funding from the South Aberdeenshire LEADER programme.

In the programme's first funding rounds, the South Aberdeenshire LEADER Local Action Group has awarded £225,475 to the following projects:

  • Strathorn Riding School Development
  • Finzean Farm Shop Development
  • Ringlink Internship Programme

Scottish Rural Action have revealed the winners of the national Rural Innovators Award 2015-16.

The awards recognise people, projects and organisations who are working to improve live in rural communities across Scotland. The winners have been invited to attend and present their projects to delegates attending the Scottish Rural Parliament, organised by Scottish Rural Action, in Brechin, Angus from 6 to 8 October 2016.

People, projects and organisations from across rural Scotland have been shortlisted for awards in seven categories - and it is now down to you to help decide the winners.

Funding of over £7 million will help to create and develop around 140 new farming businesses in Scotland.

Scottish Rural Action have launched a new rural manifesto ahead of the second Scottish Rural Parliament event.

The manifesto will be agreed at the Scottish Rural Parliament taking place in Brechin, Angus from 6 to 8 October. Around 400 people are expected to attend the event.

The manifesto has been created following a series of events across rural Scotland, and an online survey, with people sharing their views on the issues that matter the most to them.
