Moray’s Youth making the move to Net Zero!

The Moray Eco Youth Fund for Sustainability is now open to applications.

An amount of £33,333 from Moray’s portion of Just Transition Participatory Budgeting Fund has been dedicated to youth-led sustainability projects.

The funding is part of the Scottish Government’s Just Transition Fund 2024/25 through the youth-led strand of the Participatory Budgeting (PB) process managed by tsiMORAY and Money for Moray and is supported by The Elgin Youth Development Group.

This year, local young people have been at the forefront, shaping the fund and setting criteria and they’ve named the fund the Eco Youth Fund for Sustainability and the fund is now open for Applications.

You may have an idea to build or rejuvenate a green space for young people. You may want to simply reduce the carbon emissions of your group. Maybe you’d like to find a way in which you could become resilient to the challenges of climate change, or you could think about your group’s future sustainability.

If your project based in Moray and youth-led or focused you can apply for up to £3000 from the Eco Youth Fund for Sustainability to:

• Create or rejuvenate green spaces
• Reduce carbon emissions
• Build climate resilience
• Enhance environmental sustainability
• Develop green skills

The fund is open to applications by constituted groups, community organisations, appropriately constituted social enterprises and other voluntary and third sector organisations set up on a non-profit-distributing basis and is primarily targeted towards youth groups/organisations that promote youth leadership.

Last year the Youth Just Transition Participatory Budgeting funding supported 10 projects

1. Hopeman Primary School Food Garden and Wild Garden Garden shed, garden equipment and plants £1,170.00

2. Lossie High School SFL Gardening Group Plants, garden equipment and games - £3,500.00

3. Lossie High School Duke of Edinburgh Mentors Outdoor equipment and clothing - £1,900.00

4. Lossie 2-3 Group Healthy Food To grow veggies so they can cook and make smoothies, learn more about healthy food - £2,000.00

5. Hopeman Amateur Dramatics Society Lighting System Upgrade to an LED lighting rig with modern operating software - £5,500.00

6. Lossie High School – Green Valley Raise awareness of plastic pollution Recycling bins for the school social area - £3,000.00

7. Elgin Youth Development Group Outdoor space at The Inkwell Creation of outdoor recreation space and planting - £5,500.00

8. Alves Primary School Outdoor Learning Sanctuary Wooden climbing frame in the shape of a boat to provide sustainability and capture heritage - £3,100.00

9. St Geraldine's Primary Eco & Global Group Gardening equipment and plants - £5,000.00

10. 1st Elgin Scouts Active Travel Bike rack and shelter with solar lighting - £2,330.00
