​The Scottish Rural Awards 2020 are now open for entries and nominations in a number of categories including a new category: Best Countryside Digital Innovator. The winner of this category will be crowned for successfully championing digital projects and products across the agricultural, rural and tourism sectors in Scotland.

Nominations for Scotland's Tree of the Year will be accepted until 19 July 2019.

This annual competition is run by the Woodland Trust Scotland, with support from players of People's Postcode Lottery. Any organisation or individual can nominate a tree. Judges will choose finalists from the nominations which will go to a public vote later in the year.

Conservation charity Trees for Life is encouraging people going to the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival to have their own trees planted.

Organisers of the festival in the Highlands are calling on attendees to help mitigate the carbon impact of travelling to the festival near Inverness through donations to fund native trees.

A public consultation has launched seeking views on the Draft Corporate Plan for Forestry and Land Scotland.

A recent two-day conference celebrated rising interest in trees on crofts and saw the launch of a best practice handbook.

180 delegates from across the crofting counties gathered in Boat of Garten on 9 and 10 May 2019 at the conference hosted by the Croft Woodlands Project. 

The event celebrated nearly thirty years of croft woodlands since the Crofter Forestry Act of 1991, as well as four years of the Croft Woodlands Project.  Attendees heard from speakers including Woodland Trust CEO Beccy Speight and Scottish Forestry CEO Jo O’Hara.

A new alliance has launched which aims to ensure that Scotland cares for, improves and benefits from its landscapes.
