A new research paper called Understanding the Rural Economy has been published by the Scottish Government.
The report uses available data on economic growth and productivity, earnings and the gender gap, access and convenience of services, travel patterns and housing.
It develops the information on household and employment data and points to key challenges for the rural economy including broadband services, and fuel poverty.

You can now apply for micro grants from the Ayrshire LEADER programme.
Up to £5,000 is available for community projects and up to £10,000 for rural enterprise and farm diversification projects.
You can apply for up to 90% of costs and decisions on grant will be made by the end of May 2018. Projects must start within three months of grant offer and be fully claimed back by 31 March 2019.

The Scottish Government has announced the public, private and third sector partners who will make up the South of Scotland Economic Partnership.
The new partnership aims to devise a fresh approach to economic development in the south of Scotland and will pave the way for a dedicated enterprise agency for the region.
The partnership brings together key partners with business experience across sectors, size and location, as well as representatives from the education, the third sector and the public sector.

Scotland Food & Drink are carrying out a short online survey to gather views to help grow the food tourism sector in Scotland.
Food tourism includes any tourism experience in which a person consumes and/or learns about food and drink that reflects the local cuisine, heritage or culture of a place. This includes the active pursuit of unique and memorable eating and drinking experiences as well as agri-tourism.
