Pet travel to Northern Ireland

New rules for pet travel

From 4th June 2025, you will need a Northern Ireland Pet Travel Document (PTD) to take your dog, cat or ferret from Great Britain into Northern Ireland.

There will be new rules in place at ports and airports to check your pet’s microchip and paperwork. These rules also apply to assistance dogs.

You cannot take more than 5 pets to Northern Ireland unless you’re:

  • attending or training for an event
  • exporting for commercial purposes
