Supporting Young People’s Sexual Wellbeing in Remote, Rural and Island Areas

Who is it for?  It is suitable for anyone working with young people in rural community settings, GP practices, third sector, youth workers, social care and educators who want to learn more about supporting young people’s sexual wellbeing.

Aim of Session:

• To present evidence on young people’s experiences and understandings of access to sexual wellbeing support in remote, rural and island areas.
• Discuss the barriers and challenges to young people accessing sexual wellbeing support in remote, rural and island areas.
• Identify ways and opportunities to provide equity of access to sexual wellbeing support for young people residing in remote, rural and island areas of Scotland.

Rebecah MacGilleEathain – Senior Educator NHS Education for Scotland

Senior Specialist Lead at the National Centre for Remote and Rural Health and Care. Rebecah has worked for the NHS, Third Sector and Academic environments with a background in public health, youth health, reproductive and sexual health, blood borne viruses, and working with underrepresented groups.

Rebecah is an experienced mixed methods health researcher, with a focus on the health and wellbeing of remote rural and island populations, examining the influence of context and place on access to health support, in particular, the intersectionality of belonging to a marginalised group and residing in a rural area increasing the experience of health inequality.
