Improving the understanding of the challenges facing Gaelic-speaking communities and considering wider initiatives to provide more social and economic opportunities for these communities is vital to Scotland.

A Short Life Working Group on Economic and Social Opportunities for Gaelic has been set up and will have representation from a range of sectors with experience of working and living in Gaelic communities.

The Prince's Countryside Fund has opened for another round of applications on Thursday 3d March -  Apply here.

Grants of up to £25,000 are available for community-led projects that improve the long-term viability and resilience of the rural communities. 

Carbon Neutral Islands Project Information Session

In 2021 the Scottish Government announced the Carbon Neutral Islands project, a commitment to support up to 6 islands in their efforts to reach carbon neutrality by 2040. Childcare services hit by Omicron will be able to apply for grants of up to £4,500. See more information on the Childcare Sector Omicron Impacts Fund page, including how to apply for a grant.

Nearly 5,800 services could benefit from the new £9.8 million Childcare Sector Omicron Impacts Fund.

Under Scottish Government proposals, Scottish Carer’s Assistance will replace Carer’s Allowance, currently delivered by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), and be delivered by Social Security Scotland.

An additional £6m has been provided to the Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund to meet the demand for local mental health and wellbeing projects.

Community Learning Exchange - Communities Taking a Lead in Tourism

The first Community Learning Exchange of 2022 will delve into the topic of community-led tourism within rural Scotland. Tourism in Scotland has seen recent unprecedented changes due to the impact of Covid-19 and the growing popularity of travel routes throughout the country. This exchange will look into two rural communities who have been affected by changes in tourism and discuss how they can take a lead in this industry and benefit from it.
